Patrick Albert Chikumba joined University of Malawi – The Polytechnic, Department of Mathematics and Computing in February 1999 as an Associate Lecturer. In July 2002, Patrick was transferred to the new department of Computing and Information Technology (CIT) that was formed after splitting Mathematics and Computing into two departments. After obtaining his MSc, from 2010 to 2013 Patrick headed the department of CIT. He was also the Regional Coordinator (Malawi Chapter) and Regional Instructor of Cisco Networking Academy Program from 2000 to 2014.
Apart from teaching undergraduate and post-graduate courses, Patrick is the information systems researcher specializing in health information systems and Geographic Information System (GIS) implementation. So far Patrick has supervised six master students in Informatics and written six journal articles and 18 conference papers. His current research is on GIS implementation for health management in developing countries using the case of DHIS2 GIS as his PhD study at University of Oslo
